The EAC was an initiative supported by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and based on the idea that every community group, whether big or small, rural or urban focused, has a critical role in environmental sustainability. Federation for Community Development Learning (FCDL) were successful in becoming one of the delivery partners and being part of a consortium of community and voluntary sector organisations, which is delivering this initiative to support community-based groups to identify and develop community actions on sustainable development.

During the 3 year programme period, ending 2009, FCDL were able to deliver programs, aiming to increase the skills, knowledge and resources of community development workers and trainers (paid and unpaid). The activities included: - Training trainers to deliver a range of courses on sustainable development - Training community workers to incorporate sustainable development into their everyday work - Supporting community organisations to practice sustainable development principles - Developing dedicated training materials Part of the work lead to development of various publications around sustainable development, which can be can be downloaded here: Free Materials

Susi Miller (FCDL’s training development officer) has contributed with a case study for a report produced by Green Alliance (www.greenalliance.org.uk). The report “New times, new connections” explores the landscape of climate change activity, asks whether it reflects a mobilised civil society, and distils the key success factors for supporting organisations in engaging with climate change. The report was launched at Green Alliance’s event on Thursday 28th October 2010 in London. To download the report, click here
