Developing A Guide to Using the Community Development NOS

WANTED; CASE STUDY EXAMPLES OF USING CD NOS TO SUPPORT CD PRACTICE

During the recent process of revising the CD NOS many participants suggested that a more in depth guide was needed in addition to the short summary sheet. FCDL has secured funding from CDF to undertake the necessary discussion, development and writing work to produce a printed guide to using the CD standards. FCDL has commissioned Anna Clarke, Learning for Change to develop the Guide.

The target audiences will be;

• CD practitioners – voluntary and paid,
• CD employers/Managers
• Other professions using CD approaches – Health, Environmental, Housing etc
• Policy makers and Funders

From this core guide additional supplements or completely new stand alone guides could be produced by specific agencies; for example using the Community Development Standards to improve the health of communities, address health inequalities, involve communities in influencing services etc. It is expected that the Guide will be approximately 40-50 pages long with sections on using the NOS for different purposes. For example;

1. Using NOS for Workforce Development
2. Using NOS for Strategic/Action Planning/Evaluation
3. Using NOS for developing training and learning programmes
4. Using NOS for Evaluating training
5. Using NOS for Managing own personal and professional development/practice reflection

Contribute your examples;

Work is underway on preparation and the completed Guide will;

• Be user friendly in order to support NOS usage by widest audience
• Include real case study examples to illustrate using NOS from around the UK
• Include templates/checklists etc
• Focus different examples and case study material around each Key Area as far as possible.
