Ubuntu
began as a Black perspectives interest group within
the Federation. Over the years, with the consistent
support of the Federations Development Officer
- Black Perspectives, Ubuntu has developed into a network
with its own steering group, strategic plan, budget
and programme of events. Ubuntu enriches the work of
the Federation who in turn strives to integrate and
disseminate the learning and good practice into the
policies and activities of the whole organisation.
Key activities in the last few years have included a
series of successful and well-attended events which
constantly brought new people into Ubuntu in order to
share experience, seek support and give strength to
others:
Ubuntu residential meeting - which produced the
first strategic plan
Making Connections conference, London
Bringing it Together Learning and Training
event, Birmingham
Social Justice seminar, Manchester
Ubuntu North-West network established in November
2003
In addition to the above, Ubuntu has
Initiated and led the Working with Allies conference
with the Federation and CDX
Partnered CDF in the Bridges or Barricades? conference
Supported and played an active role in many other
events.

Ubuntu
is the only UK-wide Black practitioner network with
a focus on community development learning and practice.
Many Black workers and activists who come to Ubuntu
events express the need for a similar network and activities
in their area. Ubuntu is actively seeking the resources
to take forward its strategic plan which has been produced
in response to well identified needs.
