FCDL Annual General Meeting and Day Conference Friday 12th November 2010, BVSC, Digbeth, Birmingham

date: Friday 15th May 2009 10.00am - 3.30pm
venue: The Orange Studio (now just 'The Studio') 7 Cannon Street , Birmingham, B2 5EP

Thanks to everyone who attended our recent one Annual General Meeting and Day Conference: ‘Campaigning for Real Community Development: Opportunities for the Future’.

The conference part of the day was focused around: The Campaign for Real Community Development: Opportunities for the future.

To help us bring different perspectives on this, we had two presentations from:

1) Gary Craig (Professor of Community Development & Social Justice at the University of Durham) - on ‘Where is community development going?’ to read the paper go here

2) Dorothy Newton, who gave a brief input of the aims and activities of the National Coalition for Independent Action (NCIA) to read the presentation go here

The presentations were followed by a brief plenary discussion, which empathised some of the complex aspects of the context of Community Development.

The debate was taken further in 3 different workshops:

1)Campaigning for real community development

2)Working with communities to build solidarity and challenge oppression

3)Learning and development support for community development practice

Points from the workshops were fed back to the collective. Further comments and detail of the outcome of the conference part of the day will follow in a report shortly.

Some FCDL members at the AGM, raised the issue that if we don’t act now, we face having no Community Development qualifications or accredited training after December 2010. To read more about this go to: CD qualifications page A brief conference report and papers from the conference will be available shortly.

The event was free to FCDL members - find out how to join FCDL)
