NOCN
Resource Pack 10 Unit:
Practice and Principles in Community Development Work It effectively combines the topics covered in Understanding Community Development Work (pack number 1) and Community Development Work Skills (pack no 2) - both at Level 1 and 2. It examines the differences between voluntary organisations and community groups, and between working in the community and doing community development. The pack examines the component parts of our National Occupational Standards - the key purpose of CDW, our values and principles; the tensions that arise when we try to put them into practice; and CDW's key roles. Different approaches to engaging communities are examined - from consultation to participation and the many variations on this theme to be found in government policies. It explores issues of power and powerlessness of communities and within groups. The topical issue of sustainable development and sustainable communities is also introduced.
