This pack is designed to support the Community Development Work Skills National Open College Network (NOCN) unit at level 1; it is a mandatory unit for the level 1 NOCN award. It is the companion to Understanding Community Development Work and concentrates on the skills that people need to undertake community development work.

The pack takes the key roles in the National Occupational Standards for Community Development Work and introduces what they mean to practitioners.

The course provides practical tools for:
- gathering information about communities they are working with/within
- understanding how groups work
- making people feel included and not excluded
- setting priorities and making plans for actions
- how to identify resources to support community activities.
